Improving our nation’s reading literacy is extremely important to the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation. Unfortunately, studies are proving that over half of all students that attend urban public schools are reading below grade level. This trend is destructive for the children enrolled in those schools and for society in general.

To help this problem, the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation has provided a grant to In2Books, a non-profit organization founded in 1997.

The mission of In2Books is to help children become lifelong readers, writers and thinkers by enabling them, their families, and teachers with resources and support.

In2Books provides students with thought-provoking books to keep; an adult pen pal to correspond with about the books; and literacy training and resources for teachers, families and pen pals.

In the 2003-04 school year, In2Books will serve students in 50% of the public elementary schools in Washington, D.C.
